Big Media, Big Bias.

Chart A

Chart A examines different views members of the Democratic, Independent, and the Republican party have regarding news media in general, versus the news media they use. An obvious trend is that, across the board, all parties seem to have more positive opinions about the news media that they consume, rather than the media in general. Another pattern I noticed was that out of all three parties, Democrats seem to hold the most positive view of the general news media.

Chart B

These observations could seem random, but really they're connected through bias. The reason more Democrats have a positive view of the general media is because there are more news media sources that are left-leaning. This can be seen above in Chart B. Fewer independents and Republicans hold positive views of the general media because a right-leaning news source like 'Fox News' isn't considered to be general news media, it's far too biased (according to the spectrum). It's also clear that people and parties with a left-wing bias have more media outlets to choose from than right-wingers which could be another reason why Republicans and Independents don't hold positive views of the general news media.
