Ain't No Party Like a Political Party Because at a Political Party You're Only Disappointed

What Are Political Parties All About?

If you've ever paid attention to the news, an election, or really any conversation about current events you've heard the term, 'political party'. Political parties are a group of people, with common views, who come together with the goal of winning elections and holding power in the government. Political parties are a lot like house parties (minus the competitive nature). Some are huge with a lot of people and side events going on and others are small with a singular purpose, but still a good time.

There are tons of political parties with varying objectives. Some are super specific with one goal in mind(i.e: The Green Party) and others, take a more general approach to a set of values (i.e: The Republican Party). Typically people align themselves with a group that holds a set of beliefs they agree with and in order to take action, these people vote for candidates that are in this party.

The donkey symbolizes Democrats and the elephant symbolizes Republicans.

Though there are a ton of different parties, the two big guys in the mix are the Republican party and the Democratic party. The Republicans are a conservative party, and the party of our current president, Trump. The Democrats are a liberal party and the party of our past president, Obama.

Its often assumed that Republicans are the economists out of the two since a lot of their values revolve around altering The United States economic system. For instance, Republicans favour limited government regulation of the economy and think we should leave that responsibility to businesses. Because of this, many Republicans receive support from business owners and investment capitalists.

So, if Republicans ruled the economy we'd be all good right? Well, let's see!

These graphs were linked on a Forbes article written by attorney, Jere Glover. They're based on research collected over 38 years observing how factors of the economy changed when either a Republican (represented by the red) or Democrat (represented by the blue) was president.

As you can see, the economy actually does better under a Democratic president. Although it would be understandable to assume that Republicans are the people you'd go to for economic advice (with their free-market and all), the data shows that major factors affecting our economy (like job growth and the deficit) actually do worse under Republican control.

For example, the gross domestic product (GDP) growth has historically grown by an average of 3.75% under Democrats and only 2.4% under Republicans. Even business growth has done better under Democrats, according to Glover"Real business investment has been 193% higher under Democratic presidents." Which is interesting considering that Republicans generally argue that a free market is what's best for the country. Turns out, that may not be completely true. Glover also states that "Nine of the last 10 recessions have been under Republicans." which in itself, tells you most of what you need to know about the economy under Republican control.
